drcom-client PUM uses GNU gettext message catalogs (.po files) for translations into different languages.
I Want to Translate to a New Language
If you want to add a new language, please download the provided template file and open it in your message catalog editor. Similar, if you want to update an existing translation, just download the corresponding .po file and edit it.
The second thing you should do is join the Mailing List and ask if anyone is already working on translating that language. If there is already a translation which is not actively maintained, you can also offer your help.
Compiling and testing translations
To test your translations, you will have to compile the .po file into a .mo file using the msgfmt tool which is part of GNU gettext. To test the compiled file, you can use the latest builds of drcom-client. Create a directory with the language code of your translation in the locales directory of drcom-client and put the compiled file with the name drcom.mo into it. If you submit your translation, you have to submit the uncompiled .po file, the compiled file is just for you to test.
When should I submit a translation update?
The translations are shipped with each drcom-client release, so there is no great advantage to submitting a translation multiple times during a release cycle. We announce a string freeze on the Mailing List about 4 days before each release. This is a promise to you that we will not add any new strings or change any existing ones. During this time you should finish translating any new strings and submit a new translation to us.
Where should I submit a translation update?
If you've finished a translation, please make sure all translations make sense and there are no spelling errors. Make sure that the .po file is encoded using UTF-8. Catalogs in other charsets than UTF-8 might get rejected.
Then, please create a new ticket and attach your translation file. Also, please provide your full name, a contact email address, and the language and country code for your translation.
